Welcome to Apple Histories

Apples and orchards have a wonderful history that is not widely known or explored. I learned more about apples from getting involved with my local community orchard. Now I am writing a book all about them. I hope that you will find interesting and useful information about the hidden histories of apples and orchards on these pages, and on my social media. Follow my blog for all the latest posts.

About Me

Hello, I am Joanna Crosby. I have a Ph.D. in history from the University of Essex, on the social and cultural history of the apple and the orchard in Victorian England.

I am a historian of apples and orchards, but I leave my books and archives behind and get out into real orchards. I am an orchard adviser, a speaker and a writer. Ask me orchard and apple-related questions, and I will do my best to help.

I also have an M.A. in Heritage Management from Birmingham University. I am a Director of the East of England Apples and Orchards Project, an Advisor to the Cider Museum, Hereford and to the St George’s Conservation Trust.
