I recently recorded a podcast, which felt more like having a lovely chat, with Dr Neil Buttery. Neil is a food historian with an award-winning blog, so of course we considered the best ways to eat apples. We agreed that a good old fashioned apple crumble was hard to beat.
Of course we also went far and wide into apple history, in particular the often overlooked ‘apple women’ who lugged baskets of heavy apples around the streets of the cities, hoping to sell them all by the end of the day.
I think this podcast makes a good introduction to the history of apples and orchards – and it’s the perfect length to listen to while you are making an apple crumble, or indeed a pie.
You can get the podcast where ever you like to listen to podcasts, and all of Neil’s links are here.
