Darren Turpin, orchardist, allotmenteer and professional gardener, also grows an excellent website called Orchard Notes. On his site you’ll find articles on everything from that baked-apple delicacy the Norfolk Biffin, to the correct way to prune a tree.
I know, I know. You don’t have time to read another website, never mind how helpful it is. Well, as I write this, the weather in Norfolk (in other words just outside my window) is alternating between 45mph winds, hail and the blackest sky I’ve ever seen. So, if your weather is equally full of the joys of spring, just for today, stay in and read something.
Darren has also been kind enough to give a very thoughtful review of my new book, Apples and Orchards since the Eighteenth Century. I am so pleased that he thinks the book ought to be in paperback, because I do too! Hopefully this time, with illustrations and photographs as well.
Now I am a happy subscriber to Darren’s Orchard Notes newsletter, so I have even more reading to get through before the sun decides to play nicely and come out again.
This is part of my garden. Can you see the hail coming down? The garden ducks are not impressed!
